Preparation or Objects Needed:
One large cake . . .I used white and decorated it like a wedding cake. Plates and forks. Pitcher of water. Make sure a garbage can is in the room.
The cake sits on the table with plates, cups, napkins etc next to it through the entire lesson. I explain to them that the cake is just part of the whole "marriage lesson." It is the celebration at the end of the lesson. In a Sunday School Class (with boys) I told them the cake was to help them hold on and endure a lesson on marriage - because it can be so painful for those young men. Towards the end of the lesson, discuss that our everyday choices determine if and when we make it to the temple. Small decisions can have large consequences. Then dump the cake into the garbage can. As I pour the water on top I explain that wouldn't it be sad to "throw it all away," because of one small choice. One or two seemingly insignifagant mistakes can change your goals and possibly your life's outcome. Little choices you make now, will determine if and when you make it to the temple.
